NIOS
NIOS is an "Open School" to cater to the needs of a heterogeneous group of learners up to pre-degree level. It was started as a project with in-built flexibilities by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 1979. In 1986, the National Policy on Education suggested strengthening of Open School System for extending open learning facilities in a phased manner at secondary level all over the country as an independent system with its own curriculum and examination leading to certification.
The NIOS division of Bethany High School began in the year 2010. These children are divided into two classes, IX and X. In the classroom, students are taught subjects like English, Hindi, Psychology, Home Science, Business Studies, Economics, Social Science, Data Entry, Painting, and other Life skills. They also attend computer classes thrice in a week. We identify the educational needs of the children who are otherwise not catered to by the formal system of school education.
At Bethany, NIOS provides the best possible teaching and learning environment to its students so that they can be confident individuals and serve the society effectively. Assessments for the students are conducted four times in a year. Reports of the assessments are given to the parents during the Open House. The school works from 8.00 am to 3 pm from Monday to Friday. Personal Contact Programme are conducted on every Saturday. Students are taken to the Bakery Unit for baking classes. In the Bakery Unit children are trained to make biscuits, doughnuts, give shapes to Biscuits, ensure hygienic packing and make various other bakery products. The dance classes are conducted once a week. Value education classes are conducted once a week. During the CRAFT classes, activities like DIY (Do It Yourselves), Wealth out of Waste, Needle Work, etc. are conducted.
